The Essential Nature of the School

As a Montessori school, we nurture intelligence, curiosity, and imagination while supporting and developing each student’s unique talents.

Rockridge teaches universal values, instills a global perspective and responsible citizenship, and encourages an entrepreneurial spirit.

The aim is to graduate young people who are balanced between their knowledge and character: life-long learners, critical thinkers, and active leaders in their local community, their country, and the world.

In the Spotlight

“I do not believe there is a method better than Montessori for making children sensitive to the beauties of the world and awakening their curiosity regarding the secrets of life.”

Gabriel Garcia Marquez: Author, Nobel Laureate, Montessori Alumnus

A Note From the Head of School

Sandi Zorinich

Welcome to Rockridge Montessori School! We are delighted to have you here and to share the heart of our community with you. As a Montessori child myself, I experienced firsthand the profound impact this unique approach to education can have on a child’s development. I was fortunate to grow up in a Montessori environment, inspired by the vision and dedication of my mother, our school’s founder. Her dream has allowed me to not only revisit my own childhood but also to grow into the educator I am today.

Montessori education is truly exceptional. It nurtures the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—allowing them to explore their interests, develop their strengths, and cultivate a genuine love of learning. Because we spend our days together in a warm, caring environment, we are able to extend that nurturing atmosphere, creating a sense of family and belonging for every child.

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is seeing the consistent outcomes of our program. Beyond academic success, our students leave with a deep curiosity, a joy for learning, and the confidence to lead. They become community-minded individuals, eager to contribute, collaborate, and thrive in whatever environment they enter. We strive to support each child in discovering their passions while also guiding them to strengthen the areas that may present challenges.

Returning to the Rockridge area, where I grew up, has been especially meaningful. This neighborhood holds cherished memories, and it is heartwarming to now watch our students and families build their own connections here. Rockridge is a vibrant, supportive community, and it provides a wonderful backdrop for an urban school like ours.

Another unique aspect of Montessori education is its lasting legacy. It is not uncommon for parents or grandparents, who themselves were Montessori students, to walk into our classrooms and recognize the very materials they once used. This generational continuity speaks volumes about the enduring value and timeless wisdom of the Montessori approach.

Equally important to us is fostering a strong sense of community within our school. We welcome families from diverse backgrounds—some new to the area, others seeking connection—and we understand the importance of building a support network. We are committed to creating opportunities for children and families to come together, both during and beyond school hours, so that lasting friendships and meaningful connections can flourish.

Our goal is always to meet each child where they are, encouraging them to reach their full potential without pressure or comparison. We do not impose rigid academic expectations; instead, we honor each child’s agency and natural desire to learn. Whether our students transition to public or private schools, they consistently stand out as confident leaders, eager helpers, and enthusiastic learners. Families often share how well-prepared their children are, and it is a joy to see our graduates excel and carry the spirit of Montessori with them for years to come.

Thank you for considering Rockridge Montessori School. We are honored to be a part of your child’s educational journey and look forward to partnering with you in nurturing their growth and success.
