RMS PARENTS

RMS currently operates four separate classrooms in two buildings flanking Manila Avenue just east of Broadway in the Rockridge District of North Oakland. The children do not mingle between campuses. Once a parent enrolls his/her child into a program, they are assigned to that classroom, and that campus. Children are only permitted on the campus at which they are enrolled.

5610 Broadway
The original RMS location, a converted two-story home at the northeast corner of Broadway and Manila, houses our Infant/Toddler Program on the ground floor, and our Part-day Preschool Program on the second floor. The fenced yard contains a group of outdoor lunch tables and a colorful new play structure completed in January 2007.

5633 Manila Avenue
In the summer of 2004, RMS received final approval from the City of Oakland to expand into a former church across Manila Avenue from our original location. Following extensive renovation and modification of the building and grounds, we moved our Full-day Preschool Program into the new facility. The property features two classrooms, with off-street parking for pick-ups and drop-offs and a spacious fenced-in play area with several new play structures.

Future plans for the Manila Campus include the addition of one more preschool classroom, a nap room, staff lounge and updated office. The additions to the Manila Campus will conclude prior to 2010.

Safety and Security

Extra measures have been taken to ensure that both the Broadway and Manila Campuses are safe and well-equipped facilities.

Earthquake Safety: We have retrofitted both school buildings to ensure your child’s safety in the event of an earthquake. Among our earthquake safety features:

• The building is bolted to the foundation
• Shear walls have been installed throughout
• RMS uses safety glass or protective plastic coating to cover the windows and doors
• Ceilings and walls have been strengthened with commercial, fire-rated drywall
• Fire sprinklers (at the Broadway campus), fire alarms, fire doors and safety exit doors have been installed throughout
• Fire and earthquake drills are practiced regularly

Professional Playground Equipment: The school children simply think our playground is fun. They do not know that all of the equipment is professionally manufactured to exacting standards of safety. Plus, we regularly monitor and maintain each structure. What’s more, the entire playground is padded with a thick, rubberized play surface that exceeds the latest in playground safety.

Playground Inspection: The playground has been inspected and adheres to the most current safety standards set by the State of California.

Security Key Cards: RMS has enhanced campus security with a new keyless entry system which focuses on securing exterior entrances to all of the buildings, and allowing RMS parents to have access to the classroom during the day.
